In 1957, despite their son Dino’s life-long desire to be a farmer, Amerigo and Teresa leased the family farm to a neighbor for 17 years and retired. Three years later while working as a grain buyer, Dino began part-time farming on rented land with a younger brother. From that “scratch-start” beginning, Cortopassi Farms grew to significant size, based on the same family values Dino learned from his parents. Notwithstanding the achievement of widely-recognized farming success, Dino hungered to “play on more strings of my guitar” and went on to build several substantial value-added agri-business entities. Told in vivid first-person vignettes, “Getting Ahead” draws in the reader with a series of high points/low points of a 50-year entrepreneurial career.
